According to the website for the USCCB, February 7-14 is National Marriage Week. Here is a prayer of blessing that you can use or adapt for use in your own parish. The purpose of National Marriage Week is to promote the vocation of marriage- which means that someone who has a vocation to marriage might not be married right now. This prayer has room for everyone, including those who are preparing for marriage and those whose marriage has changed because of divorce or the death of a spouse.
Almighty and eternal God,
the bond of marriage is a sacramental sign
of your Son’s union with the Church,
Look with favor on all the people
who have responded to your call
to the vocation of marriage
May all who are yearning for the companionship of a spouse
remain hopeful and confident
that you will guide them to healthy partnerships that reveal your tender care for us,
May all who are preparing for marriage
deepen their individual self-awareness as they
grown in love for one another during their time of sacramental preparation.
May all who are married
be ever mindful that you Lord are the completion of all joy,
as they resolve to be of one heart, continually strengthened in the bond of peace.
May all who are widowed
turn to you for providence, and encounter your presence
among the companionship of friends who offer their support.
May all who have experienced divorce
be assured of their rightful home in this Christian community,
grant them a newfound peace of mind and renewed faith in your friendship,
your faithful look to you for protection,
and to the saints for examples of Christian living,
as these our friends seek your grace through the vocation of married life,
bestow on your servants the fullness of your own abundant love.
We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
