home-ec hacks to keep black clothes intact

This one is for the priests. Black clothes. How do we keep them from turning grey?

As a creature of habit, I almost exclusively wear black pants, and it used to drive me crazy because they would fade so quickly until I learned a few tricks home-ec hacks that keep the black intact.

One thing that was recommended was Woolite for Black Clothes & Denim. I’ve used it, and while it definitely does the job, I’m not too keen on the scent.

My favorite trick is white vinegar. I use about 1/2 cup of white vinegar in cold water and let my clothes soak for about 30 minutes before I add just a few drops of all-purpose liquid soap. Then, I add another whole cup of vinegar in the fabric softener compartment. Believe it or not, the vinegar odor dissipates, so there’s no worry about smelling like a pickle. I dry everything on the lowest heat setting or hang items on individual hangers in a warm, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

Have you tried it? What did you think?
