a prayer for valentine’s day

On February 14, we celebrate holiday of Valentine’s Day, with customs attributed St. Valentine, a martyr and miracle worker.  Our Christian calendar, also commemorates the memorial of two brothers, St. Cyril and Methodius, who were Christian missionaries to Eastern Europe in the ninth century.

Gracious God,

Today is a holiday that celebrates relationships.

Every relationship is a gift from you.

Every relationship is an opportunity
to learn more about you.

Send your spirit upon us today
and bless our relationships.
Through the intercession
of St. Valentine,
St. Cyril and St. Methodius,
give us the grace to be like these holy people and make courageous choices.

May our relationships always be relationships that are healthy for our bodies, minds and hearts.
Guide us to live in a way that is truly loving, not just of others,
but of your presence who dwells within each one of us.

We ask this in the name of your living love who walked the earth,
Jesus your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, R./ Amen.
