Over the span of my career, I’ve had the opportiunity to work with some pretty amazing pastors. Each one taught me something new, and each one had a distinct approach to pastoral leadership, but the all seemed to have one thing in common: they all hated asking for money. When I was in my mid twenties, I had a part-time side job in an outbound call center, where i found myself recruiting contributors for a NYC cultural instution. By the time I left, I was recruiting gifts–over the phone- which averaged around $2000. Years later, when I applied some of these simple techniques in the parish, I watched as pledges for one particular fundraiser increased by nearly 20% over the previous year… It’s not some magical spell, it’s a simple common sense strategy, and today, I’m going to share it with you.
